Margaret (Peggy) Joan Maddox writes non-fiction about language, literature, education, and popular culture. Her fiction writing embraces juvenile and adult historical fiction and the mystery genre. She’s had two juvenile novels published by David C. Cook. Her most recently-completed adult novel is a mystery called The Fabergé Flute.
An academic generalist, M. J. Maddox has degrees in English from Oklahoma City University and the University of London. She holds M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Comparative Literature from the University of Arkansas.
Dr. Maddox’s perspective on education is the result of more than thirty years’ teaching experience at every level, from pre-school to university, in the United States and in England. Her chief areas of interest are English grammar and usage, comparative religion, English literature, and world literature in translation.
As “Maeve,” she contributes articles on language to Daily Writing Tips, and as Peggy Maddox, she writes movie reviews at BellaOnline, a women’s magazine site.
As the American English Doctor, she offers parent-friendly information and observations on reading, writing, and the uses of literacy in American culture.
Current non-fiction projects are a “Bottom-line” composition guide for people who want to write reasonably correct English by mastering a minimum of formal grammar, and an ABC for parents who would like to protect their children from reading failure by teaching them how to read before they are exposed to public school.
Her current fiction project is an adult historical novel based on the life of Joan of Arc.
